All B+E courses include the use of our own vehicles (Mitsubishi Warrior + Horsebox) but you are welcome to use your own vehicle, if preferred, providing the vehicles meet the requirements of the DVSA for test purposes.

We provide first class trailer training to companies and individuals in the greater birmingham and west midlands at our own driver training centres. Through our 20+ years experience and DVSA registered tutors you will learn how to be confident at manouevring, coupling and driving with a trailer hitched. Changes in the law took place on 16 December 2021 which allow drivers who passed their car driving test from 1 January 1997 to also tow larger trailers.

Previously, drivers who passed their car (Class B) driving test from 1 January 1997 were only allowed to tow a trailer up to 750kg Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM) or a trailer over 750kg MAM as long as the combined MAM of the trailer and towing vehicle was no more than 3,500kg. If they wanted to tow a trailer that was heavier than this, they had to pass an additional car and trailer driving test.

However, with the recent change in laws, drivers who passed their car driving test from 1 January 1997 can now tow trailers up to 3,500kg MAM without the need for an additional test. This means they can tow larger caravans, horseboxes, or trailers, as long as the total weight of the vehicle, trailer, and load does not exceed the car's Gross Train Weight (GTW), which is the total allowable weight of the car plus the trailer plus the load.

While the recent changes in the law regarding towing may have expanded the types of trailers that drivers are allowed to tow, it is still highly recommended that candidates take training from a reputable driver training school.

Towing a trailer can be challenging, and it requires a different set of skills than driving a car alone. Even if you have been driving for many years, towing a trailer can be a daunting task. By taking driver training with our qualified instructors, you can learn the proper techniques and skills required to safely tow a trailer. This includes how to hitch and unhitch the trailer, how to handle the vehicle and trailer combination, plus how to anticipate and react to hazards on the road.

Additionally, training from a qualified provider can also help you to understand the legal requirements for towing a trailer, such as the need for appropriate insurance and the importance of performing regular maintenance on the vehicle and trailer.

In conclusion, while the recent changes to the law have made it easier for drivers to tow larger trailers, it is still advisable that candidates seek training from a qualified provider. By doing so, you can gain the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to safely tow a trailer and enjoy your driving experience.
